Hello Highland Families!

We are very excited to welcome everyone to Highland for the 2022-23 school year!  Despite some lagging issues due to the cyber-security breach and some glitches with our new operating system, Aspen, we have been able to hit the ground running, ready to build positive relationships with students and to provide them with a safe and engaging learning environment!

A couple of important reminders:

Inclement Weather:

Due to supervision issues, we are unable to let students into the building before 9:20am, unless there is a safety issue (e.g., lightning in the area, extreme cold).  Therefore, it is very important that you dress your child for the weather, including bringing an umbrella if it’s raining.

Extended Day:

The morning and afternoon Extended Day Program is a separate program from the core day program that is just housed in the same building.  As such, if your child is signed up for after school for Extended Day, then the only way for them to be dismissed is by signing them out from the Extended Day program.  This is a legal requirement of the program. This policy is in place to make sure that students are able to be safely tracked as they transition from the core day program to the Extended Day program.  Please don’t call the office to ask if students can go elsewhere (e.g., Kiss N’ Ride, a friend’s house) if they are signed up to attend Extended Day.

Kiss N’ Ride:

The Kiss N’ Ride program can only operate from 9:05am-9:20am and 3:40pm-3:55pm.  Please DO NOT park in the lot, or drop off/pick-up in the parking lot – only use the designated Kiss N’ Ride area.  This is not only for the safety of the students, but also because the middle lane of the parking lot is a bus loading zone.  Also, please continue to park as close as you can to the curbs.  Now that bussing has resumed, they will need to use the lane between the Kiss N’ Ride line and the vehicles parked along Forest Road.

September Open House:

We are hoping that families are able to come and attend our Highland Open House from 6:00pm to 7:00pm on Wednesday, September 28.  You will be able to meet your child’s teacher and explore their learning space.  Save the date!
